Buried TreasureACC Publishing
In 2013, New York based photographers and publishers, John Taylor and Dianne Dubler found themselves in master craftsman Ralph Thompson’s enormous – and freezing – studio in Holyoke MA, where they were simply amazed at what they saw.
Thompson had spent the last 30 years digging, transporting, cutting and polishing massive pieces of eons old petrified wood - some standing over 15 feet tall and weighing thousands of pounds – and had retained a collection of the finest pieces to pass through his remarkable atelier.
With never before published images shot exclusively for their book, Buried Treasure is a celebration of the astonishing colors and patterns created over the millennia, as Nature slowly transformed this wondrous material into her art, years later to be refined by the hands of a master craftsperson.
John Taylor and Dianne Dubler, founders of Kubaba Books, created the photography for over 250 books, including Read My Pins: Stories from a Diplomat’s Jewel Box, the former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright’s collection of brooches, Elizabeth Taylor: My Love Affair with Jewelry, Kenneth Jay Lane: Faking It, Learning from the Dalai Lama: Secrets of the Wheel of Time, Wisdom and Compassion: The Sacred Art of Tibet, and The White House Collection of American Crafts.
